Council’s new ‘Enviro’ team shortlisted for national award

Caerphilly County Borough Council is celebrating the news that it’s new ‘Tidy Towns – Tidy Places’ team has been shortlisted for a national environmental award.

The Tidy Wales awards, which are organized by the Environment Agency and Keep Wales Tidy, received hundreds of nominations from a range of groups, companies and public organizations who help make our countryside an even cleaner and more pleasant place to live, work and enjoy.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s ‘Tidy Towns – Tidy Places’ team has been shortlisted in the ‘Public Sector’ category of the awards.

Cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Lyn Ackerman said, “This excellent news clearly illustrates that we are continuing to look for better ways of working and helping to make even more of a difference to the quality of our local environment.

In a very short space of time, the ‘Tidy Towns – Tidy Places’ team has played a very significant role in improving hundreds of areas within our county borough, and I wish them every success with the finals of the Tidy Wales awards.

The ‘Tidy Towns – Tidy Places’ team, which was set up in November 2008 have enhanced skills in a wide range of functions and have worked on a vast array of environmental projects including vegetation clearance, community planting, painting and clearing up of ‘hotspot’ areas.

The winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony in November.
