Courtney Pine to ‘gig’ Cardiff

Courtney Pine began his professional career playing saxophone for artists such as; Black Harmony,  Al Campbell, Barrington Levi, General Saint, Clint Eastwood, Aswad and Freddie Mcgregor.

He switched to playing jazz with the community music group and signed a record deal with Island records in 1986. His debut album Journey To The Urge Within became the first serious jazz record to enter the British national pop charts and ever since Courtney has been on a non stop world tour.

No one better embodies the dramatic transformation in the British Jazz scene over the past twenty years than Courtney Pine. The saxophonist heads a new generation of exciting and innovative musicians who have chosen to turn their talents to the demanding requirements of jazz music, in all its shapes and forms. Recently he has worked with Mick Jagger, Bryan Ferry, Kate Bush, Salif Keita, Talvin Singh, Jazzmatazz, Desmond Dekker and Elton John.

He has recorded 11 studio albums, 3 film scores and is in production for his first live recording. His radio show for BBC radio 2 called Courtney Pine’s Jazz Crusade is in it’s 10th series.

This Jazz Icon will be bringing his wealth of experience to Cardiff to play at The Globe on Monday February 22nd and promises to enthrall one and all.

Tickets are £20 for advance bookings and are available from Ticketweb, Ticketline, Spillers Records and from the venue during opening hours.   Doors will open at 7.30pm and the show will run till approximately 11.30pm.
