Regional Assembly Member for North Wales, Aled Roberts, visited homes at Caernarfon’s Maes Barcer estate this week to see how a share of a multi-million pound investment is being spent on homes and the surrounding area by local housing association, Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG).

The AM’s visit was part of a short tour of the housing association’s current improvement programme which includes investing to improve tenants’ homes and the area surrounding its estates.

Meeting with CCG Chief Executive, Ffrancon Williams, Mr Roberts saw homes before, during and after improvement work. He saw for himself how tenants lives are being improved with safer, more modern and comfortable homes. The work on the Maes Barcer estate is part of a wider improvement programme which will see all 6,300 of CCG’s properties brought up to Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

Mr Roberts also saw how the investment is benefitting the local economy creating nearly 100 jobs within CCG itself and nearly 400 additional jobs with various contractors involved with the programme. The investment has also secured nearly 60 apprenticeships and training opportunities.

Aled Roberts said: “I was very impressed with the work that was being done to improve the lives of Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd’s tenants and at the same employ local people. In the Assembly I often talk about the importance of creating local jobs and apprenticeships so it was great to see Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd putting those ideas into action.”

Ffrancon Williams, CCG Chief Executive added: “I’m pleased that Aled Roberts has taken the time to visit us and to see for himself some of the work we are doing to improve tenants’ homes and to make sure all our properties conform to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard. As a local business we are very proud that through the WHQS work we have been able to create local jobs as well as training and business opportunities. We look forward to welcoming Aled back to Gwynedd in the future.”
