Creative careers fair

People of all ages interested in working in the creative industries – including music, photography and film – were given advice and information at a special careers fair in Pontypridd.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Creative and Cultural Industries programme, ‘Designs for Life’ hosted the careers fair at the Muni Arts Centre, looking at routes into the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) sector.

Exhibitors included representatives of the local community arts sector and further education providers, as well as national organisations such as the Welsh Music Foundation, Promo Cymru and Business in Focus.

Careers Wales were on hand to offer advice and support, and opportunities to get involved in CCI-based projects were promoted by the Cultural Services Arts Development Team and Services for Young People, as well organisations in Rhondda Cynon Taf working in the sector: RCTCA, Spectacle Theatre and Valleys Kids.

Darren Warner, Creative Director of Pontypridd-based music magazine, PLUGGED IN, offered advice to aspiring journalists and photographers.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “This was a great opportunity for people to speak to organisations about developing a career in the creative and cultural industries – from young people seeking advice on further and higher education courses on offer through to entrepreneurs seeking business advice.”
