The RNLI inshore lifeboat from Criccieth launched on both days of the weekend – first to recover a motorboat which had hit rocks, and then to assist a broken down jet-ski.
A motorboat with a female adult, young girl and a dog from Poynton in Cheshire was rescued on Saturday (17 April) after hitting a submerged rock off the Dwyfor estuary. Criccieth’s inshore lifeboat Doris Joan was launched at 17.20 and reached the vessel to find that the young girl had been removed from the boat and taken to Porthmadog harbour by her father, who was on a jet-ski.
The vessel accepted a tow and it was decided Pwhelli harbour was the nearest safe option. Near to the harbour, the Pwhelli inshore lifeboat took over the tow and Criccieth inshore lifeboat returned to station.
On Sunday (18 April), the Criccieth inshore lifeboat was launched again at 13.40 to a jet-ski, which had broken down about one mile off Black Rock. The man on board the jet-ski had a radio and the lifeboat immediately found the casualty.
