Criccieth RNLI Lifeboat rescues three people from sandbank

Criccieth RNLI Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Doris Joan was launched at 17.09 on Wednesday 25th May after reports that three people were cut off by the tide in Sansom’s Bay close to Black Rock Beach, Porthmadog.

As Doris Jane proceeded to the scene, the Arancia Lifeboat was despatched by road to be launched at Borth y Gest. The three casualties were quickly spotted by the volunteer lifeboat crew on a sandbank in Sansom’s Bay. The casualties, who were visiting the area from Derbyshire, had been walking along the beach before they were cut off by the tide.

It was decided that the smaller Arancia Lifeboat would collect the casualties from the sandbank due to low water level, and then passed to the Doris Joan who brought them safely to shore at Borth y Gest. The casualties were then left in the care of the local coastguard team.
