Over one hundred people were arrested in one day as part of a focussed operation targeting prolific and priority offenders, wanted people and known offenders in the Gwent force area.
On Tuesday 8th December teams of police officers in Monmouthshire, Newport, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Caerphilly located and arrested 111 people in connection with a variety of crimes including criminal damage, theft, assault, burglary and drug offences.
Detective Chief Inspector Russ Tiley who oversaw the operation commented:
“As a result of the relentless hard work of officers throughout Gwent, we have apprehended a significant number of individuals who were wanted for committing crime in the force area.
The results of this operation will positively impact the lives of Gwent residents, reducing the number of victims and crimes committed in the area.
This operation sends a clear warning to criminals that we will deal robustly with anyone who chooses to break the law in Gwent and they can expect a visit from Gwent Police sooner rather than later.
Although this activity was focussed on one particular day, I want to emphasise that officers continue to work proactively around the clock to reduce crime in our communities and to protect and reassure local residents.”
Anyone who has any information about criminal activity in their area should contact Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
