Estyn Chief to leave Wales

estynDr Bill Maxwell, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector for Education and Training in Wales (Estyn) is to leave Wales in the New Year to take up his appointment as HM Senior Chief Inspector of Education in Scotland with effect from February 2010.

Finance and Public Service Delivery Minister Andrew Davies said: “I am personally sorry to lose Bill, but would like to thank him for his important contribution in helping raise quality and standards in Wales. The range and quality of inspection services and how effective they are in achieving the required outcomes for our citizens is crucial.”

Education Minister Jane Hutt said: “Congratulations to Bill on his new appointment. I would like to thank him for the significant contribution he’s made to education and learning in Wales and for the important role he played as part of my Ministerial Advisory Group. I wish him well in his new position.”

Arrangements are in hand to appoint an Acting Chief Inspector and to recruit and appoint a permanent Chief Inspector.
