With less than a month to go until the Olympic Torch makes its historic entry into Wales through Monmouthshire on 25th May, Monmouthshire County Council and the communities it serves are putting the finishing touches to a series of events to celebrate this once in a lifetime visit. The Torch will enter Wales through Monmouth and visit Raglan and Abergavenny before continuing its journey through Wales.
A council spokesperson said: “There will be a huge range of events before, during and after the Torch’s visit to Monmouthshire. The Torch’s visit and the Olympic Games will leave us a lasting sporting and cultural legacy and we’re very excited to be a part of an historic event.”
Among the many events planned are:
- 7th May – 28th May – Following the Flame Exhibition. Open daily, 10 – 4 Shire Hall, Monmouth
- 21st May – Olympic Themed Rhymetime – Monmouth Library
- 22nd May – Olympic Themed Under Fives Storytime – Monmouth Library
- 24th May – Olympic Themed Rhymetime – Chepstow Library
- 24 May – The Olympic Spirit in Poetry and Prose – Abergavenny Library
- Olympic Themed Storytime for pre-school children – Abergavenny Library
- 25th May – Olympic Stories for the under fives – Chepstow Library
- Abergavenny Borough Band open air concert – Abergavenny Castle
- 26th May – Olympic Themed Story and Craft Session – Monmouth Library
- 26th May – Family Storytime and Olympic Torch crafts – Chepstow Library
- 11th July, 7.15pm at the Drill Hall Lower Church Street Chepstow, Tickets £3 (from Chepstow Museum tel 01291 625981) Martin Polley, sports historian and author of the English Heritage book ‘The British Olympics – Britain’s Olympic Heritage 1612-2012’ will be giving an illustrated talk on this subject. His book will also be available for sale on the night! Organised by the Chepstow Society. as one of Chepstow Festival events
