A young man from Aberbargoed has achieved his ambition of becoming a member of a boxing club after receiving support from Caerphilly county borough council.
David Andrews, aged 19, was initially introduced to a boxing club in Bargoed by a Youth Inclusion Worker from the Promoting Independence Project.
Over a period of five weeks, minimal support was provided until David decided that he was happy to attend on his own. David has gained new confidence and self esteem and now regularly attends the Church Place Boxing Club, which meets above Bargoed Social Club.
The club trainers Vince Cleverly and Alan Davies contributed to this process by giving David lots of encouragement and support. This positive experience has increased his social network and he continues to attend the boxing club independently. David and his family are happy and very supportive about this achievement.
