Davies: Minister must address NHS training deficit

Commenting on the success of ‘1000 Lives Campaign’ which is due to conclude today, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:

“I would like to congratulate the NHS staff involved in this initiative for their work in avoiding additional stress and suffering for patients.

“It is crucial that the momentum that has built up over the course of the initiative does not cease now that the campaign has come to an end.

“We must carry forward the good practice that has been demonstrated during the campaign to all sectors of the healthcare service.

“The Health Minister must tackle the chronic deficit in training for healthcare staff that has been in highlighted in various audits.

“She must also explain fully her recent dictate to local health boards as part of the Annual Operating Framework that 3% of nursing staff graded band 5 and above must be lost every year over the next 3 years.”
