Davies: Patients must have confidence in out of hours system

Responding to calls from a coroner on the need for reform of the out-of-hours system to ensure patient safety, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:

“While exceptionally rare, the tragic case in England involving an overseas doctor working his first NHS shift highlights the pressures on the out of hours service.

“We need assurances from the Health Minister in Wales about the safety of the out of hours scheme so patients can have confidence in the system.

“Where issues of concern do arise all relevant bodies need to work together to ensure they are resolved quickly and to guarantee long-term continuation of the service.”
