Davies: Politics must be taken out of NHS

Commenting on the Westminster Health Minister’s speech to the BMA conference today, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:

“It is right that we do empower clinicians to make decisions based on the best for patient outcomes, rather than be dictated to by political agenda.

“Clinicians should be able to take the lead in managing the best course of treatment for patients without falling foul of politically-imposed limitations over medicines and costs.

“We must take the politics out of our health service and end the political interference by the Assembly Government that has marred the NHS in Wales in the last decade.

“Clinicians must be trusted and respected to make decisions based on patients’ best interests and outcomes.”

“The plans laid out by the Westminster Health Secretary will ensure that the NHS in England is clinician led and not subject to the political interference and dogma that we have in Wales, which has only resulted in longer waiting lists for patients.”
