Aled Davies, Leader of the Conservative group on Powys CC, commenting on Powys CC’s to decision to press ahead with the school modernisation, handing over responsibility for post 16 education to a mysterious new body and to restrict Welsh medium education said:
“It is good news for Llanidloes High school and Ysgol Dyfryn Trannon in Trefeglwys, with the temporary reprieve of the Welsh Medium provision at the high school, there will now be a review but no extra funding to cover the increasing demand.”
The news for Builth Wells, Llanfyllin and Llanfair Caereinion 6th forms is grim, the Liberal Democrat/Independent run council have refused to consider the pleas of the communities, for example post 16 education through the medium of Welsh will be withdrawn from Llanfyllin. Sixth formers who wish to study through the medium of Welsh will be forced to leave the school; our Welsh language will be damaged.
“I raised numerous issues around the future of our 6th forms and the Council commitment to our language in my statement to the Cabinet, but the Cllr Hayes failed answer any of them he failed to give any assurance that some 6th forms would not be closed by the new Central Commissioning Body, neither was their any detail about the make up or governance of this new body. The Cabinet appears to have given Cllr Hayes a blank cheque, more detail is desperately needed.”
