Davies: Report highlights impact of mental health issues

Commenting on today’s report which says mental health problems cost £7.2bn a year, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:

“This report highlights the scale of mental health issues in Wales and its impact on individuals, families, communities and the economy.

“While support is already in place, national framework agreements need to be implemented to ensure uniform delivery across Wales. Every effort must also be made to ensure we get the basics right.

“The Assembly Government and NHS bodies need to be serious about developing mental health services in Wales that are fit for the 21st century.

“Ministers also need to ensure the success of my colleague Jonathan Morgan in devolving powers over mental health services to the Assembly is built upon.

“Doing so will ensure we provide a level of care which is appropriate, of the highest possible standard, and treats patients with the respect and dignity they deserve.”
