Davies: WAG cannot mask reality of waiting times

Commenting on the NHS waiting times figures for March, Shadow Minister for Health Andrew RT Davies AM said:

“We must not forget that behind every single figure is a personal anxiety of someone waiting for treatment that could dramatically improve their life.

“Yet again, the number of people waiting over 14 weeks on the inpatient/day case list has risen, as has the number of people waiting over 22 weeks on both the inpatient/day case list and the outpatient list.

“While I do acknowledge that there has been a drop in the number of people waiting over 10 weeks on the outpatient list, the Assembly Government cannot not mask the reality that waiting times have risen vastly in the last year.

“It is concerning that even in the spring months, the Assembly Government is failing to get to grips with the situation, and this does not bode well for the winter.

“I have challenged the First Minister and the Health Minister over waiting times on countless occasions and they have still failed to show the leadership needed to tackle the problem.

“It is deeply regrettable that patients in Wales are being let down by the Assembly Government’s inability to effectively manage waiting times.”
