Welsh Conservatives have expressed their disappointment over the Health Minister’s statement on dementia care.
Commenting on the announcement, Shadow Minister for Health Andrew RT Davies AM said:
“It is bitterly disappointing that the Minister is still unwilling to commit to bringing forward a Wales Dementia Plan.
“A number of dementia care providers, sufferers and their families and dementia charities have fed into consultation in anticipation of the Plan being brought forward as a priority but will be disappointed yet again.
“The Minister must be held to account over her decision to further delay the Plan, but it is fair to say that many of the people that fed into the consultation will feel let down by the Assembly Government’s lack of commitment to tackling the ticking time bomb that is dementia within our society.
“While I welcome the fact that the Minister has committed to several priorities areas of further development, I have concerns about how speedily the work will be carried out.
“These streams must be moved forward in a timely manner so progress can be made in this long neglected area.
“The Assembly Government has shown a lamentable lack of ambition in tackling the issues facing dementia care.
“The Welsh Conservatives have said many times that dementia sufferers and their families deserve better and have worked as best we can to support families living with dementia.
“I deeply regret that the Assembly Government is failing to make significant strides forward in tackling this devastating condition.”
