Time is running out for nominations for this year’s Ian Forshaw Memorial Medal, which commemorates the former Director of Forestry Commission Wales who died suddenly in September 2007.
The Medal, which carries a cash prize of £500, is presented biannually to the person, group or business which best embodies the qualities of excellence and innovation that Ian brought to forestry in Wales.
Forestry Commission Wales will announce the winner at this year’s Royal Welsh Show in July, and is urging people to ensure they nominate worthy recipients before the June 1 deadline.
The award was created as a lasting legacy to Ian’s significant and wide ranging contribution to forestry, especially during his time in Wales.
The judges will look for people, groups or businesses in Wales which:
- made a difference to the woodlands, forestry activity/sector of the timber industry
- brought distinction to and enhanced the reputation of forestry, the timber industry or woodlands
- demonstrated innovation and/or entrepreneurship
- carried the respect of their peers.
Supporting evidence with applications should not exceed two pages of A4. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the FC Wales website, www.forestry.go.uk/wales, or are available from Geralene Mills, Forestry Commission Wales, Welsh Assembly Government, Rhodfa Padarn, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, SY23 3UR.
The nominations will be considered by a Forestry Commissioner and the Director of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, and the winner will receive the award during the forestry awards ceremony at the Royal Welsh Show on Tuesday 19 July, 2011.
