New Flintshire County Council Chair

Councillor Hilary McGuill has been appointed Chair of Flintshire County Council with Councillor Fred Gillmore as the Vice-Chairman.

Councillor McGuill represents the Argoed electoral division and has been a member of the Council since 1999.

She is a retired Radiographer who worked both in the UK and in the Middle East. She is also a retired post mistress having managed Mynydd Isa and Hawarden post offices.

A member of Argoed Community Council and the Community Health Council, she is a former member of the former Delyn Borough Council and Flintshire Local Health Board.

Councillor McGuill is Chair of the Council’s Social and Health Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Chair of Argoed Youth Club User’s Committee, a member of Argoed Sports Association and Governor of Argoed High School and Ysgol Y Bryn, Mynydd Isa.

A widow with four children and four grandchildren, Councillor McGuill’s consort will be her brother John Tellett. Her nominated charities are the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (ECMO department) and the Macmillan Nurses (Mynydd Isa).

Councillor Fred Gillmore, who represents the Gronant electoral division, is the new Vice Chairman.

A service engineer for Hotpoint for forty years, he retired in 2002, and was first elected to Flintshire County Council in 2004.

Councillor Gillmore is Chair of the Governors at Gronant Primary School, Chair of the Rural North Flintshire Family Centre at Gronant management committee, and secretary treasurer of the Gronant Youth Club management committee. A member of Llanasa Community Council, he is church warden and secretary of Llanasa Church. He is a member of the Rural North Communities First Board and is on the committee of Gwespyr Village Hall. Councillor Gillmore is a member of a number of scrutiny committees on Flintshire County Council.

He is married to Maureen, who will be Councillor Gillmore’s consort, and has a daughter and two sons, as well as two grandchildren.
