Denbighshire and Conwy departments to merge

Plans to integrate the street lighting teams and street works teams of both Denbighshire and Conwy County Borough Council were given the green light in Denbighshire today (Tuesday).

At the meeting of Denbighshire’s Cabinet, members agreed for the departments to merge, creating one stream-lined team aimed at providing a more robust and effective service to residents of both counties.

Work has been continuing for some time to combine the teams, such as recruiting one Head of Service and bringing in a single IT system. There will also be changes to standardise licence fees and charges across both counties and the sharing of staff and machinery to make better use of resources.

The benefits of collaboration have already been seen through improved buying power which has reduced the cost of electricity and services for both authorities.

Stuart Davies, Head of Highways and Infrastructure for Conwy and Denbighshire, said: “This is the latest milestone towards bringing the management of these departments under one unified structure.

“A joint service will allow staff to operate flexibly across Denbighshire and Conwy and provide for more efficient and effective management of all streetworks.”

The report will also be taken to Conwy’s Cabinet for approval in early May.
