Denbighshire Council pledges support on collaboration plans

Councillors in Denbighshire have signed up to a Compact between the Welsh Government and local authorities which sets out how organisations can work together regionally and nationally to improve public services and make savings.

This Compact for change comes in the wake of two major reviews (the Simpson and the Vivian Thomas reviews) which looked at the delivery of public services and the Sustainable Social Services for Wales: A Framework for Action’ policy statement.

Signing up will commit the Council to play a constructive part in delivering three Implementation Contracts that make up the Compact – Education, Social Services and Other Services contracts.

Mohammed Mehmet, Denbighshire’s Chief Executive, said: “The Minister has already told Welsh councils that they must work together to provide the best possible services for residents and to protect front line services.

“From the start Denbighshire has recognised the benefits of collaboration and this Compact is consistent with the proavtive approach Denbighshire has already taken.  There is nothing in the Compact that our Council is not either already involved with or would object to in principle.

“There are many examples of collaboration, with Denbighshire and Conwy already working together in highways and infrastructure, planning and public protection and strategic partnerships. There are other examples of joint working across the whole of North Wales and other organisations.

“This Compact will only enhance and strengthen the work going on in our county.”
