Denbighshire Council’s opportunities to experience the world of work

Denbighshire County Council has launched a brand new initiative to offer students or recent graduates the chance of valuable work experience in local government.

The Internship Programme will provide opportunities in various service areas to suit candidates with different levels of experience and areas of expertise.

The programme is open to recent graduates or a student living in Denbighshire (but could be studying anywhere) as well as those studying in Denbighshire (but could live in or outside of the county).

The programme will offer interns an opportunity to

  • Enhance their knowledge and understanding of the range of work undertaken by councils.
  • Enhance their CV and chances of paid work at a time of high unemployment
  • Complete projects of value to local communities.
  • Consider a career in the public sector within Denbighshire.
  • Leave with a written reference detailing the type of work carried out during the internship, length of internship and skills developed.

Internships will be for a period of up to three months, two to five days a week. Location will be dependant on Internship placement, but will be within Denbighshire.

Sally Ellis, Denbighshire’s Corporate Director- Demographics, Wellbeing and Planning, said: “These internships will provide unique and excellent opportunities for students or recent graduates to gain experience of working in a varied and extremely rewarding environment, improving services for the people who live in, work in or visit Denbighshire.

“The Council has set up a Board called People and Places to co-ordinate the Council’s activities around the well-being of our residents and communities. One of the strands of our work is looking at ways of enhancing employment and career opportunities for people in their own communities.

“The Council has run a successful modern apprenticeship programme for years, but we still want to look at providing more innovative opportunities for individuals looking for work experience, so that we encourage a new generation of people wanting to work in the public sector in Denbighshire.”
