Denbighshire County Council hails restoration scheme’s success

Denbighshire County Council has hailed the success of a restoration scheme at a national industry awards ceremony.

The What House Awards honoured the restoration work at The Willows, a grade II listed building in Llangollen with the top honour in the Renovation category.

The Willows has seen a major refurbishment and has been re-developed as social housing by North Wales Housing working in partnership with Denbighshire County Council.

The renovation was made possible through funds from Denbighshire County Council, as well as the Welsh Government and CADW.

Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration, said: “The successful completion of the scheme had relied upon the close working of officers in Denbighshire’s Planning and Housing sections.

“An element of the funding was provided through a planning commuted sum process and officers in both sections worked in partnership with North Wales Housing to ensure the scheme was delivered to a very high standard.

“This was an excellent example of collaboration with officers being pro-active and inventive to progress the scheme through the planning process.”
