Denbighshire Primary schools’ absence figures revealed

Denbighshire primary school children are the fourth best in Wales for attendance, the latest figures from the Welsh Assembly Government have revealed.

Denbighshire’s
primary attendance figure for the academic year 2009-2010 was 94%, just 0.5% behind Monmouthshire who came out on top.

Denbighshire figure of 6.0% of school sessions missed due to absence is comparable with neighbouring authorities and is lower than the Wales average of 6.9%.

The figure places Denbighshire 4th in Wales equal with the Vale of Glamorgan. Monmouthshire, Ceredigion and Gwynedd finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Education, said, ‘This is a positive result for Denbighshire primary schools.  I would like to thank all students, parents and all school staff who have helped us achieve this result.  I would also like to reaffirm the council’s commitment to improving standards in education.’
