Denbighshire Recycling banks retire

Denbighshire County Council has removed plastic bottle recycling banks located at sites in Llangollen, Prestatyn and Ruthin. Denbighshire residents, the best at recycling in Wales, are now being reminded of the wide range of plastics they can now recycle from home.

The amount of plastic bottles collected in these banks plummeted since Denbighshire County Council now provides every household in the county with a recycling collection.

However, residents can place all rigid plastic packaging in the recycling sacks or bin they have at home, not just bottles. The range of plastic items that can be recycled in blue bins or recycling sacks includes: –

·        Plastic bottles, e.g. milk, pop, water, shampoo, detergent etc.
·        Plastic pots, e.g. yogurt, cream etc.
·        Plastic tubs, e.g. margarine, ice-cream etc.
·        Plastic punnets, e.g. fruit and vegetables
·        Plastic trays, e.g. fruit, vegetables, meat etc. but NOT polystyrene foam
·        Plastic caps and lids

When recycling plastics it is important that items are empty and all traces of the product rinsed out. Plastic milk bottles can now be recycled into new milk bottles, so the importance of keeping recycling clean has never been greater.

Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, Councillor Sharon Frobisher, said: “These plastic banks have been very popular in the past but have now had their day. As all Denbighshire residents can now recycle a much wider range of plastics at home the time has come to retire these banks.”
