Denbighshire says ‘no’ to fly-tipping

Denbighshire1Environmental crime in Denbighshire will not be tolerated – that’s the message from Denbighshire County Council after it successfully prosecuted three individuals for fly-tipping.

Three cases were heard at Denbigh magistrates this week relating to bags of rubbish being dumped in a Prestatyn car park, on the roadside between Dyserth and Holywell and on private land in Rhuddlan. The three individuals involved were issued with total fines of £750 and £1,000 in costs.

The cases came to court following investigative work by officers from Denbighshire Environmental Services.

Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “The council is doing its utmost to keep the county clean and tidy and the work is being hampered by individuals who think it is acceptable to dump waste in public areas.

“The council has dedicated civic amenity sites where people can dispose of their rubbish legally, so there really is no excuse for this kind of anti-social behaviour and the council is determined to stamp out this problem.

“Not only does fly-tipping make the area look unkempt, but it also affects the quality of life for local residents. The council will not hesitate in using its powers and taking court action against those responsible for fly-tipping.
