Derek Brockway challenges you to try something new at your library

TV weatherman Derek Brockway is challenging you to try something new at your local library during the Welsh libraries festival. During 20 – 30 January there will be lots of events for all the family happening in libraries across Wales.

Flintshire Libraries are promoting different learning experiences for all age groups in a week long programme of events. A cartoon workshop will be held at Saltney Library on Saturday 22 January. Connah’s Quay Library will have an IT Savvy Session on Monday 24 January. An introduction to Family History resources will be held at Flint Library on Tuesday 25 January and at Holywell Library on Friday 28 January. On Wednesday 26 January, Buckley Library will have a Rhymetime Fun singing and story session for babies and toddlers. A Welsh Language Creative Writing workshop will also be held at Mold Library on Saturday 29 January. Further information is available on our website www.flintshire.gov.uk/libraries. Places are limited so booking is essential.

Derek commented: “I’ve been set a challenge to try something new at different libraries across Wales. During the festival I will be shown survival techniques with expert Andrew Price in Monmouth. I will also be learning to knit at Milford Haven Library and trying out a bit of rap with renowned Welsh rapper Ed Holden at Bangor Library – I can’t wait! It just goes to show that libraries offer much more than books and cater for all types of hobbies and interests.”

Lawrence Rawsthorne, Flintshire County Council’s Head of Libraries, Culture and Heritage said “We are delighted to be part of the Welsh Libraries Festival, which highlights the many opportunities for the people of Flintshire to try something new in their library.”

Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones said: “Libraries are at the heart of the communities they serve, offering something for everyone. The festival is a great opportunity for the whole family to try something new and to bring libraries to the forefront of people’s minds.

The New Year is a great time to learn a new skill or to take some time out from our busy lives so the festival has come at an ideal time. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this national celebration.”

The festival will be launched on 20 January by the Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones and Derek Brockway at Monmouth Library.
