Display to Mark 40th Anniversary of Brecon Library

An exhibition to celebrate 40 years of Brecon Library has been officially opened.

Chairman of Powys County Council, Cllr David Price, opened the display at the library on Monday (September 14). He was joined by children from Llanfaes Nursery who also enjoyed a special storytime session as part of the celebrations.

The exhibition contains photos from the royal opening of the library, which was carried out by Prince Charles. Also in the display are a range of items from the era including coins, pottery and books. The display runs until Friday 16 October.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the library also ran a competition for it’s members. Children had to design a library of the future and the lucky winner was Pia Smith from St Joseph’s Primary School. She won a family ticket to Cantref family adventure farm. In the adult section, Lesley Murray of Pontwilliam won the quiz and a meal for two and complimentary bottle of house wine at Roberto’s Restaurant in Brecon. Both prizes were kindly donated by the businesses.

Vicki Workman, Group Librarian with Powys County Council, said: “We welcome everyone to come in and see the anniversary display. There are lots of photos and items to view over the next few weeks.”
