Dog ban areas now in force

Denbighshire County Council would like to remind members of the public not to take their dogs onto certain sections of the beaches in Rhyl and Prestatyn.

A dog ban area is now in force on Rhyl beach from the Blue Bridge to Old Golf Road.  In Prestatyn, the ban area runs from Ffrith Beach to Prestatyn Sailing Club.

The ban, which is in force 24 hours a day from 1 May to 30 September, makes it a criminal offence for people to exercise their dogs in the restricted areas.  The ban is monitored and enforced by Denbighshire’s Coastal and Enforcement Teams and North Wales Police Community Support Officers.

Dog ban areas allow local residents and visitors to use the designated bathing areas, without dogs. However, there are also separate dog exercise areas, either side of the restricted areas, where members of the public are welcome to exercise their dogs on the beach.

Breaches of the ban may lead to being reported for the offence or being issued with a  £75 fixed penalty notice.
