Don’t lose your vote in 2012

Voter registration forms will be dropping through letterboxes across Gwynedd soon and residents are being urged to complete and return it as soon as possible to make sure their voice is heard in next year’s council elections.

Gwynedd Council’s Electoral Registration Service will be sending forms to all households in the county over the coming months to compile the electoral register. If residents have not received a form through the post they should contact the Council on 01766 771000 or forms are available to print at the website www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

Dilys Phillips, Gwynedd Council’s Electoral Registration Officer, said:

“Registering to vote is very simple. All you have to do is update the form with the details of everyone in your household who is eligible to vote and return it to us as soon as possible. If there are no changes you can confirm this by telephoning or visiting the Council’s website.

“Some people may not realise that they have to register every year, it is important that you complete and return the registration form so you’re able to take part in upcoming elections.

“There was a lot of interest in elections over the last 12 months – we had National Assembly elections, a referendum for increased power for the Welsh Government and a poll on changing the Parliamentary voting system. Remember you have to register to make your voice heard in all of these elections.”

Special provisions to register apply to members of the UK armed forces serving abroad to allow them to vote. For more information, go to www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

For information about registering to vote by post or voting by proxy visit the Gwynedd Council website www.gwynedd.gov.uk and follow the links to Council, Democracy and Elections.

Those who wish to have information about them excluded from the edited electoral register, so their details cannot be bought by individuals and commercial organisations, can specify this on the registration form.
