Dragons to fire up Caerphilly 10k

The Newport Gwent Dragons will be on hand to fire up the runners taking part in the Caerphilly 10k on Sunday 22nd June.

Captain Andrew Coombs will join the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr David Carter, to kick start the race, which will see over 2000 runners from across the United Kingdom tackle a challenging 10 km route in and around Caerphilly Town Centre, starting and finishing in the shadow of the spectacular Caerphilly Castle.During the race, Coombs and other players will join Sport Caerphilly to keep families and spectators entertained with a Commonwealth Games themed Sports Park.
 
The Sports Park will be located near the start/finish line on Crescent Road and will give people the chance to try their hand at a number of sports, from cycling and climbing to tennis and football. Free T-Shirts will be given out to children who complete a number of the activities and record them using a special PasSport which will be handed out on the day.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, commented, “With the Newport Gwent Dragons coming along to this iconic event we are really cementing our partnership with them following their use of the brand new Caerphilly County Borough Centre for Sporting Excellence. The second Caerphilly 10k is set to be bigger and better than last year and I wish everyone taking part the best of luck!”
