The Ebenezer Players and Ysgol Gymraeg Trelyn took to the stage on Thursday 19 June for their annual summer performance at Ebenezer Chapel Pengam.
To mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, the theme of the morning’s entertainment was ‘We Will Remember Them’, a selection of songs and show tunes from both World Wars.
The Ebenezer Players are a group of drama lovers who attend Ebenezer Resource Base for adults with learning disabilities. They rehearse for months to prepare their annual summer show, working closely with Year 6 pupils from neighbouring Ysgol Gymraeg Trelyn. The shows, which contain a marvellous mix of mime, dance and comedy, have gained a loyal fan base and pull in ever growing audiences year on year.
Wartime favourites such as Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again” and Gracie Fields’ “Wish Me Luck as You Wave Me Goodbye” had the audience in tears, before unique interpretations of WWI tunes including “Goodbye-ee” and “It’s a long way to Tipperary” had them crying with laughter. There were fantastic impressions of George Formby and everybody got in the mood for a bit of Glenn Miller.
