Economic Downturn Affects Workplace Bullying and Harassment

In the current economic climate, are the challenges faced by organisations and their leaders having an impact on staff motivation and heightening feelings of bullying and harassment?

This is just one of the many topics being discussed at the Seventh International Conference on Workplace Bullying and Harassment that takes place in Cardiff next week (2nd to 4th June) at the Hilton Hotel.

Hosted and managed by the University of Glamorgan’s Centre for Research on Workplace Behaviours, researchers, academics and practitioners from over 32 countries will debate and share knowledge about examples of workplace bullying and harassment research from across the world

Professor Duncan Lewis, Director of the Centre and Chair of the conference said, “As many countries around the world face increasing budgetary pressures, the challenges for leading and managing organisations could have a significant effect upon behaviours, morale and motivation where feelings of bullying and harassment might be heightened.”

He continued, “We are proud to welcome this very prestigious international conference to Wales for the first time. Our conference will enable world experts to discuss and debate the key themes of research and practice into bullying and harassment.”

Other topics that will be discussed at the conference include workplace bullying in the NHS, sexual harassment in the armed forces, the role of trade unions in workplace bullying cases, whistle blowing, violence at work and the effects of bullying on performance.
