Eisteddfod honour for former Mayor

A former Mayor of Wrexham has added another accolade to his ever growing list after being made an honoury president for the 2011 National Eisteddfod.

Cllr Arwel Jones, who served as mayor between 2009-10, will take his position as the Eisteddfod comes to Wrexham between 30 July – 6 August.

He has join the ‘Gorsedd of the Bards’ and is the only councillor in Wrexham to achieve these honours.

Cllr Jones still serves his Pant ward and says he is delighted to represent Wrexham at the Eisteddfod.

“This is a tremendous honour not just for me, but for Wrexham as a whole.

“Everyone is excited to see the Eisteddfod come to Wrexham and it is important that we have strong, local involvement at the event.

“These are two of the most prestigious honours at the Eisteddfod and I am thrilled to receive them.”

As well as receiving the above honours, at the Eisteddfod Cllr Jones will also give a talk on Owian Glyndwr.
