A day aimed at promoting safety and providing reassurance for elderly residents has been held in Caernarfon this week.
Organised by the Gwynedd and Anglesey Community Safety Department, the ‘Elderly Reassurance Day’ was held at Capel Ebeneser in the town where over 50 local residents attended.
Several agencies took part on the day including North Wales Police and the Police Authority, Trading Standards, Mencap, Mantell Gwynedd, Gofal a Thrwsio, Age Concern, Victim Support, Witness Support and the Fire and Rescue Service. Caernarfon Town Mayor, Councillor Hywel Roberts and Town Councillor Bonner Pritchard Jones also attended to support the day.
PCSO Norman Hughes from the Community Safety Department said: “The local Neighbourhood Policing Team engaged with all those present providing crime prevention advice and reassurance. Several agencies were present – which included Trading Standards who were able to provide advice regarding bogus callers and how to deal with any potential scams received either by post or telephone.
“The day proved to be very successful and the feedback received was very positive with the elderly requesting more of the same in future.”
The participants were also given the opportunity to vote on any issues of concern to them with the ‘Balance your Bobbies’ initiative. The results will assist the local Neighbourhood Policing Team in addressing some of the issues raised by the elderly.
Other similar events across Gwynedd and Anglesey have been organised by North Wales Police and will be held in the near future.
PCSO Hughes added: “We as a Community Safety Team have organised six events in total across the area. These days highlight the benefit of partnership working and are also good opportunities for the elderly residents to meet their local officers.”
Free food and transport was also provided which was funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
