Environmental works a step closer in Pontardawe

Neath Port Talbot Council’s ambitious plans to develop the Cwmdu Glen site for leisure activities have moved a step closer.

Phase one, which saw the Motorworld premises in the centre of Pontardawe demolished, is now finished.

The Welsh Assembly Government has invested over £195,000 in grant funding for the Council to acquire and demolish the properties.

Phase two has been agreed in principle by the Assembly and the Council is now applying for grant funding to the Assembly’s Western Valleys Strategic Regeneration Area to move the scheme forward.

A brief is being prepared to guide consultants on the design of the environmental enhancement works which should be completed by next March.

“The shops have been empty for some years and have long been an eyesore in the heart of the town,” says Council Leader, Ali Thomas.

“The enhancement works to the entrance to Cwmdu Glen, planting, paving and interpretation panels.

“These new improvements will enhance the heart of the community  so that this key site in Pontardawe will be a much more attractive place to visit.”
