New school takes shape

The new primary school for Fishguard will start to take shape over this summer.

Construction work on Ysgol Glannau Gwaun is on schedule with the concrete foundations for the steel frame complete. The next phase of building work – the erection of the steel frame – starts this week.

Over the next three weeks a crane, steel columns and roof, and concrete planks will be delivered to the building site at the former Further Education Centre site.

Because of the narrowness of the roads leading to the site – in particular  the junction of Clive Road and West Street – the police have put out parking cones to temporarily prevent parking and allow access for large delivery vehicles.

Residents and visitors are being asked to show patience while these deliveries take place.

If cones are removed and vehicles parked it could lead to severe traffic congestion in the area.

Construction work on the new school is being carried out by Dawnus Construction. It is due to open in September 2011 and will amalgamate the Infants and Junior schools, which currently operate on two sites.
