Events for Haiti Appeal

A series of local fundraising events are being organised to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Powys County Council’s Youth Service are co-ordinating events involving their Duke of Edinburgh Award Groups.

In Llandrindod Wells a raffle is being organised with prizes kindly donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets will be on sale in the town’s underpass near Somerfield on Friday (January 29). Alternatively tickets can be can be purchased from Claire Mills on 07811 897867.

A cake stall is also being held for staff at Powys County Council’s St Johns Offices and County Hall reception in Llandrindod Wells.

In Builth Wells, a Fairtrade food stall will take place at the town’s High School between 25-29 January where pupils can purchase Fairtrade food items with all proceed going to the cause.

Other events across the county are also being planned, such as a sponsored walk by Newtown Complementary Education Duke of Edinburgh Award Group.

Claire Mills, Duke of Edinburgh Development Officer with Powys County Council, said: “We felt it was important to support the appeal. Especially as compassion, and helping communities are part of the ethos of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

“We would like to publicly thank the local businesses who have kindly donated raffle prizes. And also everyone else who is offering support or help – it is greatly appreciated.”
