An exhibition exploring the art, beauty and individuality of books will be held at the Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery, Bangor until 15 January, 2011.
Gwasg Gregynog exhibition and sale
This part of the exhibition will be opened officially by David Vickers, retiring controller of the Gwasg Gregynog press, on Saturday, 27 November at 1.30pm as he introduces the private press’ latest publication: “Princes and Castles – A Legacy of Thirteenth Century Wales”.
The exhibition features original limited edition prints from this and other publications, including works by Kyffin Williams, Rigby Graham and Colin See-Paynton. Also on display is a small authentic hand press and information about the traditional skills of typography, printing and hand book-binding.
Various books can been seen and purchased at a special exhibition price.
BOOKart
This part of the exhibition shows the work of three artists, and their differing approaches to the concept of the book and story-telling to create intriguing one-off items.
Becky Adams – each piece she produces becomes an embodiment of a story preserved within each stitch of her work.
Emma Hobbins – a series of created objects inspired by everyday things, each with its own story to tell.
Alison Mercer – the artist shares her thoughts and ideas through sketchbooks, journals and book structures.
