Expo to Promote Cardiff’s Economic Vision

CardiffCityHallOfficers from Cardiff Council’s Economic Development team will next week be presenting to one of Europe’s leading Property and Investment International Trade Fairs when they deliver the message that  the city is once again “open for business” to the Expo Real taking place in Munich from Monday, October 7 to Wednesday, October 9.

With 38,000 participants from 71 countries, more than 1,700 exhibitors and more than a thousand journalists attending, the event provides one of the few opportunities to promote the Welsh capital to a global audience. Neil Hanratty, Director for Economic Development, will be speaking at the event.

Cabinet Member for Finance and Economic Development, Russell Goodway, said: “As the capital city of Wales and one of the most important British cities, Cardiff needs a strong international profile.  The Council will be using this particular event to tell the story of Cardiff’s regeneration and how, having this week been identified as the “best city in the UK for young people”, it is one of Europe’s leading ‘liveable’ cities.

During the visit, officers will also take the opportunity to visit Munich’s Conference and Convention Centre facilities and will be talking to investors with an interest in developing and running a major convention centre and indoor arena in Cardiff.

Councillor Goodway added: “Council Officers will also be taking the opportunity on this visit to develop future business partnerships as well as sharing knowledge with other cities, learning from their experience in order to help influence the way in which we develop our plans for Cardiff. Developing international links reap important economic benefits, help us to attract further investment, and help cement Cardiff’s position as a city for international business.”

“Our officers will be promoting our plans for the convention centre and indoor arena, the opportunities provided by the Central Cardiff Enterprise Zone and the planned investments in transport, digital and energy infrastructure.”
