Extra eyes to reduce crime on Valley roads

South Wales Police in Pontypridd is working in partnership with a local bus company to help reduce crime and disorder.

Edwards Coaches has installed its own internal and external CCTV cameras in a large number of buses within their fleet.

The aim of the cameras is to keep passengers safe and help detect crime on the streets of Pontypridd.

Inspector Lee Porter, head of Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The external CCTV cameras on the buses are an extra set of eyes for South Wales Police in Pontypridd and a further tool we have to reduce and detect crime.

“If drivers notice any suspicious or criminal behaviour while they are travelling around the Taff area, they will forward any CCTV footage to us.

“The company and its drivers are very much part of the Pontypridd community and we are delighted they are supporting South Wales Police in this way as we work together to keep people safe.”

Commercial Director of Edwards Coaches, Jason Edward’s commented on the cameras: “We have installed these cameras at our own expense to help us provide above and beyond our promise of a friendly reliable local service, and deliver an additional extra level of comfort and security for our passengers.

“We have been overwhelmed with the fantastic local support we have received and as a local company we are continually looking at ways to enhance the service we provide.”
