Swansea’s favourite English and Welsh nursery rhymes will be revealed later this week to coincide with National Bookstart Day.
Over 3,300 parents and children under five voted as part of the scheme and the results will be announced on Friday (October 9).
Rhymes such as Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet, Geffyl Bach and Noson Oer were among those available for selection.
Swansea Bookstart staff are behind the vote and are set to reveal the results in Central Library at 2pm.
An arts and crafts session and nursery rhymes will also take place during the afternoon and a series of additional fun activities has been arranged at community libraries throughout the week.
Bookstart is a national programme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with their children from as early an age as possible.
The scheme aims to provide a free pack of books to every baby in the UK to inspire, stimulate and create a love of reading that will give children a flying start in life and to show that books are fun.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “The Bookstart scheme in Swansea has been a major success since its inception and means children are getting a flying start to life through access to the wonderful world of words from a very young age.
“We hope this will help develop a lifelong love of reading for many children as books are not only educational but also serve as a source of inspiration and creativity.
“It’s very apt that this year’s Bookstart Day celebrates rhymes because they are a great way to involve all the family in songs and stories and a wonderful way to get children excited about books.”
