An inspirational ‘Festival of Light’ will be held in Gronant and Talacre on Sunday 27 October- including an impressive sculptural lantern parade and beautiful projections off the lighthouse and other local buildings.

The family festival takes place from 2pm to 8.30pm, culminating in the lantern procession at 7.30pm from Talacre Beach Holiday Park to the Lighthouse on Talacre Beach. There will be a stage for live music and other activities and events for all the family.

Over the last few weeks, local schools and community groups have been working with artist Ben Davies to create large portable lantern sculptures for the procession, based on the themes ‘At the Seaside’, ‘Our Natural Coast’ and ‘Our Local History’. At the same time, young people, schools and youth clubs have also been working alongside artist Ronan Devlin to create images that will be projected onto the Talacre Lighthouse and other local buildings.

Family Percussion Workshops

On the afternoon of the festival a family percussion workshop will be held and participants will be able to join the evening lantern procession creating music for the walk from Talacre to the Lighthouse.

Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education, said:

“This is going to be a fantastic experience and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy this family festival. Please make sure you wear sensible footwear and appropriate clothing as it is an outdoor event. The whole event, including the percussion workshops, is free of charge. Please contact 01352 704408 if you need further information.”

The Festival is being organised by the Arts, Culture and Events section of Flintshire County Council with support from the Arts Council of Wales, Cadwyn Clwyd, Welsh Government and BHP Billiton. It is also part funded by Cadwyn Clwyd’s Innovation Flintshire scheme, which is financed as part of the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 by the Welsh Government and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
