Fewer victims of crime in Deeside in 2009

NW PoliceThe Deeside area has seen a significant drop in the number of people falling victim to crime over the last 12 months.

As a result of the hard work of the Deeside Neighbourhood Policing team, in conjunction with partner agencies including Flintshire County Council and Communities First, crime levels in the area have shown a significant reduction with 176 fewer victims of crime than the same period last year.

District Inspector Mark Hughes said: “This is a massive plus as just one less victim of crime makes all the effort worth while. I hope this demonstrates to residents and businesses that the efforts we are making to help people feel safe and improve confidence in Deeside police are paying off.”

The Deeside team is also pleased with the number of people taking the time to highlight their policing priorities through the Balance Your Bobbies web link which is an interactive method of allowing the public to have their say on local policing matters.

Local people highlighted alcohol related anti-social behaviour as a priority and in response the police organized Operation Vicarage in the Community Gardens and Somerfield Supermarket car park area of Connah’s Quay resulting in a significant drop in calls to the area.

The public also highlighted increased police visibility and drugs as priorities.

Inspector Hughes said: “We will work to improve our visibility over the next few months and, as I am sure people are all aware from local media coverage, I am always keen to target local drug dealers.

“Please continue to contribute your views to help us work with our partners to make Deeside even safer.”
