Wrexham County Borough Council, in partnership with Fields in Trust, has designated three more recreational areas as part of the Owain Glyndwr Fields in Trust Scheme.
Special plaques have been unveiled to mark the protection of public open spaces at Bangor-on-Dee, Crispin Lane (Rhosddu) and Minera. These three sites add to the six other fields already protected by the Council in recent years.
Representatives from Wrexham County Borough Council, the Community Councils and Fields in Trust, along with local school children attended and planted daffodil bulbs together at each site to celebrate their protection.
Councillor David Bithell Lead Member for Environment and Transport said that Wrexham council had been at the forefront of the “Owain Glyndwr Scheme” and was delighted that 3 new areas of public Open Space were being protected. Areas of Green open space are hugely important to local people and the protection of playing fields and recreational grounds will have significant benefits for future generations to enjoy.
Richard Gale, Committee Member of Fields in Trust Cymru said “FIT Cymru is delighted that Wrexham continues to protect important playing fields and play spaces through our Owain Glyndwr Fields initiative. These dedications will help to ensure that Wrexham will always have a network of outdoor spaces where children and adults alike can go for healthy physical activity. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Council and adding to the nine Owain Glyndwr Fields already established in the county”.
