Take a bite out of history this summer with speical lunchtime talks at the Glamorgan Archives.
The archives will host five free lunchtime talks by colleagues from the Parliamentary Archives.
The talk programme will include the following –
- Wednesday July 27 at 1pm -Sources for Local and Family History at the Parliamentary Archives.
- Wednesday August 10 at 1pm – Suffragettes and Parliament.
- Wednesday August 24 at 1pm -The Great Fire of Westminster.
- Wednesday September 7 at 1pm – 1834 Gems of the Parliamentary Archives.
- Wednesday September 14 at 1pm -The Parliamentary Archives and Communities.
The Glamorgan Archives is home to a staggering 45,000 volumes, 60,000 plans and hundreds of items. The archives’ state of the art building, which opened in 2010 and is based at Leckwith, is designed to ensure historical documents are kept in the best conditions possible and has been constructed to create stability in temperature and humidity.
Documents stored include records of local Councils, schools, families and individuals, landed estates, industries, shipping companies, Police, chapels and churches and many others as well as maps, plans and photographs.
