Finals spot within sight for Scarlets

The Scarlets Under 16s will all but book their place in the final of WRU Age Grade Championship if they defeat Gogledd Cymru in Colwyn Bay on Sunday.

With five victories in as many games, the region is sitting pretty on top of the pile, 11 points clear of the Ospreys who lie in the third place.

A victory of any sort this afternoon against an improving North Wales side, will take them at least seven points clear of second placed Blues South who defeated the Ospreys 24-18 in midweek.

When the two sides met at Llandovery on the opening day of the season, the Scarlets ran out 34-0 winners courtesy of tries from Jordan Williams, Gareth Owen, Bradley Davies and Dylan Morgan. Williams, the leading scorer in the cmpetition, also weighed in with another 14 points from four conversions and two penalties.

To their credit, the North, who have one win to their name – they defeated Blues North back in September – have shown vast improvement since the opening game of the campaign and would hope to provide a sterner challenge this weekend.

Should they win, with a bonus point too, they would haul themselves into joint fourth place.
