First Minister must stand by Bronglais commitment, says AM

Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, said that he hopes that the First Minister will stand by his commitment not to downgrade services at Bronglais Hospital.

During weekly questions to the Welsh Government leader, Mr George said he was concerned about the potential downgrading and centralisation of services away from Bronglais, which patients and those living in the west of Montgomeryshire relied on very heavily.

Mr Jones replied by saying that no one was looking at the downgrading of any district general hospitals in Wales. He added that the current building development and investment in Bronglais was a clear sign that it would not be downgraded.

Commenting, Mr George said:

“I do welcome this positive response from the First Minister. However, we have yet to see the publication of Hywel Dda’s future for health services.

“If there are any proposals for the removal of services from Bronglais in that report, I hope that he and his Government will stand by that statement to ensure the viable future of the hospital is maintained.”
