Fishguard lifeboats respond to mayday call

Both of Fishguard’s RNLI lifeboats were requested to launch on Sunday evening 27th March in response to a ‘Mayday’ call received by H.M.Coastguard.

The all-weather lifeboat and inshore lifeboat, totalling eleven volunteer crew members, hit the water at 7.15pm and headed for the possible location of the distress call in the area of Dinas Head and Newport Bay. The two lifeboats were later joined by a Royal Navy Sea-King helicopter from RAF Chivenor in Devon.

After three hours of structured searching including the use of para-illuminating flares nothing was found and the search was called off and both lifeboats returned to their Fishguard harbour base at 11pm.
