Families taking part in a unique health improvement scheme have been rewarded for their efforts.

Nearly 70 people, who have taken part in the Family Challenge Project, gathered at the Picton Centre in Haverfordwest recently to mark the end of their programme with a special presentation party.

All those taking part were given certificates recognising their achievements, while children were given party bags and also met Lennie the Leek, Pembrokeshire’s healthy school meals mascot.

The Family Challenge Project has been set up by Health Challenge Pembrokeshire to encourage and support families make lifestyle changes in order to improve their health and well-being.

Each family has an individual programme designed to suit their needs and take part in a variety of activities including sessions on nutrition, exercise and play.

They also meet other families at joint events such as leisure centre fun days, beach activity days and cookery events.

Councillor Sian James, Cabinet member for Health and Well-being  said families saw health benefits by making changes to their lifestyles.

“Even small changes can result in better health and well-being for the future,” she said.

Pembrokeshire Family Challenge is open to all families in Pembrokeshire who have at least one child under 12.

Managed by Health Challenge Pembrokeshire – a partnership of organisations responsible for health and well-being in Pembrokeshire – it is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Way of Life initiative.
